A Bilateral, Indian American, trade organization launched in Kansas City - Sat., Jan 27th, 2007; Blue Valley Library, Overland Park, KS.
Indo American Chamber of Commerce – Kansas City (IACCKC) a bilateral trade organization serving the Kansas Missouri area was launched at a short ceremony in Overland Park attended by about 30 business and professionals. The IACCKC promises to provide a bridge between Indian and US Businesses in the region.
There are IACCs in most major cities of India that the KC Chamber could call on for assistance in the local areas. There are also Ten other IACCs in the USA that they are affiliated with. The event was at the Blue Valley Library on 151st just West of Antioch in Overland Park at 10 A.M.
The Kansas City chamber was started by Raj Bhatia (rbhatia@iacckc.com) and Sanjay Kohli (skohli@iacckc.com). There is a wide support for the initiative. The focus on India as an outsourcing destination as well as the US Foreign policy towards India in matters of Nuclear Non proliferation treaty has increased the general awareness in India’s potential as a Business partner. The value of this recognition is not lost to the founders of the chamber. They indicated that the current climate made the times “just right” for launching the chamber. Bhatia is the Chairman & the Managing Director while Kohli is the President.
The IACCKC team was announced at the launch. Mr. Rajiv Mahajan, Mr. Ulhas Sanjanwala, Dr Uttam Garg, Mr. Ranjit Singh and Mr. Sanjay Kohli were named to the Board of Directors by Raj Bhatia. Mr. Ravi Mehra , Mr. Puneet Gorawara and Mr. Atul Agarwal were named as the members of the Executive team. Ms. Surekha Bhatia will be the treasurer.
Dr Uttam Garg, professor at the UMKC school of Medicine and the Director of Clinical Chemistry and Toxicology Laboratories at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics spoke about the possibilities of future Bio Engineering collaborations between the US & Indian companies. Mr. Rajiv Mahajan a senior executive at H&R Block has recently returned from visiting several IT firms in India, spoke about the potential of the IT industry. Dr. Narinder Singh closely associated with the health insurance spoke about the possibilities in the off shoring model for health services. Mr. Ulhas Sanjanwala with Cerner informed the group that Cerner has IT development facilities in India through a subsidiary company there. The IACCKC was launched just ahead of the Indian Ambassador to US visiting Kansas City on February 8th. Mr. Ronen Sen, the Indian Ambassador is coming to Kansas City on an invitation from the International Relations Council (www.irckc.com).
This year the Greater Kansas City of Chamber of Commerce is organizing a business mission to India in the September/ October time frame (http://www.kcchamber.com/KcTrade/Index.asp?~= ). All in all, there is considerable activity in this region focusing on business partnership with India.
IACCKC is organizing a conference on April 10th at the Kauffman Center. The theme of the conference will be “Doing Business with India”. Details will be posted at the chamber’s website www.iacckc.com.
